The temple in this view was dedicated to Khnum, the ram-headed Egyptian god who is said to have created humankind out of clay. The center of the black panel of each side of the frame is decorated with a gilt winged sun, an ancient Egyptian symbol associated with divinity, royalty and power. This particular print is custom framed in an ebonized flat-panel frame with a gold inner border. The subscribers edition was published concurrently with the standard first edition at roughly twice the price it wasn’t strictly limited to subscribers, but there were far fewer examples issued.
